Zachary Carrettin has performed internationally as violist in solo, chamber music and orchestral projects, collaborating with classical music luminaries in concerts featuring a wide array of styles, from period-instrument performances to world premiere renditions of newly-composed work. He has shared the stage with ‘cellist Jian Wang, conductor Nicolas McGeegan, violinist Martin Beaver, pianist Joyce Yang, the Tokyo String Quartet, the Assad Brothers, and has given local, national, and international first-performances of works by composers Gabriela Frank, Ray Granlund, and Cynthia Lee Wong. Additionally, working with violinist Kenneth Goldsmith, Carrettin participated in the first-known performances and recordings of the string quintets by Giuseppe Antonio Capuzzi (1755-1818).
Mr. Carrettin was a Fellowship Artist at the La Jolla Music Society SummerFest, where as principal violist of the chamber orchestra he had the opportunity to accompany violinists Jaime Laredo, Cho-Liang Lin and Augustin Hadelich. He continued on to study the viola as a doctoral student at Rice University Shepherd School of Music, where he worked with Ivo-Jan van der Werff. Additionally, he received lessons and chamber music coaching from Cynthia Phelps, Lawrence Wheeler and Richard Wolfe.
